How to choose a lure

Lure types and what they do
Topwater lures (poppers, pencils, stickbaits) are worked on the surface. Minnows work in the water column. Crankbaits have a lip that makes them dive. Frogs are used in weeds and vegetation because their hooks rarely snag. Soft lures are flexible and can be rigged in many ways.

F, S, and SP codes
F (floating) floats at rest, S (sinking) sinks, and SP (suspending) hovers at a set depth when you pause the retrieve. The code is usually printed on the lure packaging.

Size and weight
Match the lure weight to your rod's lure rating and your reel type. At Jatiluhur Reservoir, lures around 5–10 cm are a common choice, with a few variations to switch between when the fish are picky.

Color for the conditions
At Jatiluhur, silver, gold, and chartreuse have proven effective. As a general rule: bright colors for murky water, natural colors for clear water.
